'Subsistence is good.'

Sobering week as our global corporate speed trip hit a wall. Leaving us wondering what the heck
holds us up and what do you do when your money is worthless? Where does food come from?
How has our system destroyed so much of the natural sustaining systems of community?

Our Corporate tyranny, yeah but the money is good so people join up. If you centralize the power
and increase your market share you can accumulate great wealth.

'It's a crime to run a small business in this country.' From local governments to the Federal Government regulations favor those who can reach the biggest scale of operation.

Last night my attention was captured by the roar of a motorcycle passing on 4th Street in front of the Rafael theatre at an insane rate of speed. He just made it through the Yellow changing Red
stop light at B street and with every eye on him from passers by, continued to accellerate towards C Street only to realize apparently he had some notion of RED vs Green that he was not going to be able to outrace the next Red Light and tried to decelerate. I watched in the distance as the bike went down with a skid and a crash, sliding down the street further through the intersection. I watched as people from the intersection of 4th and C rushed over to him. I fumbled for my cellphone
to call 911 it was shut off and I had to wait further for it to cycle on.

I assumed the man was in very bad shape.

It seemed like a couple of minutes passed.

I heard a siren.

Then I heard the sound of a motorcycle starting up and this fool had picked himself up, he must have been wearing a bunch of armor and drove off. Hopefully shaken to the core.

 Metaphor provided by the Cosmos.

Meanwhile in 'my town' San Anselmo the Town Council with little fanfare in what seemed like an entirely too rapid a process, from proposal to vote, it was 5-0 vote in favor to join some San Anselmo Police Services with the Twin Cities Police. Disheartening vote that leaves a great many questions unanswered that could have been asked. There seemed scant community knowledge of this item on the agenda here in Mid-summer.

How do you share a Captain? I know both Police Chiefs are nice guys who like each other. But who Commands this Captain. He is in charge of Crime Investigations for both (all three) towns. Well there is not a lot of crime in Marin but what about our Emergency. Who gets him? Our coming Emergency.. what does the Chief of Police of SA do to find his number 2 Guy? What about the shared dispatch services? So what if the new 22Million dollar police headquarters in larkspur is rated to withstand an 8.0 quake. How many lines will be lit up when crisis hits and the People of San Anselmo's link to it's
Security Force has to go through Larkspur/Corte Madera? What if the internet is down? It just doesn't make sense to this Guy. Clear chain of command, it doesn't sound that way to me. That seems to be the back issue in San Anselmo where guest Mayor 'Progressive' Ford Greene hastened this measure along with his blessings.

Does Marin County have real Democracy? Do we get to elect an official to be Responsible for the operations of our towns? A fellow citizen who we choose to sit in a seat where he or she citizen and he or she representative knows the Buck Stops here. Isn't that the essence of Democracy?
Instead we seem to have rule by Town administrators who haul down near 6 figure incomes while Town Councils (doing their best) rotate the symbolic post of Mayor amongst themselves keeping
everything on a friendly (nothing wrong with that) basis but it fosters this inability to get a grip on town issues. That's what I have come to believe.

Get real Guy! Who are the people of San Anselmo? Since I moved out to California in the Winter of 1975 so much has changed. Are there any residents of San Anselmo who pride themselves on their town and their independence? Not so much as before it seems. Great wealth has moved into Marin County over the years and made us all the poorer.
