'...all human life is sacred'
Sometimes you don't get to pick the people
out there who agree with you. Yes I find the notion of President
George W Bush to be uttering this phrase this notion that the US
is founded on the afore mentioned principle to be hypocritical
to the deepest levels.
His trust in war as a solution to the problems of the world
shows little evidence of a respect for life.. His fundamental
betrayal of the people of the US and betrayal of our democracy
in pushing this war upon the world is a crime that still awaits
some form of Judicial accountability.
The trauma and loss of life that takes place on a daily
basis in that nation as a direct result of his abuse of
Executive power is staggering.
Perhaps because of this there are millions of Americans
whose immediate reaction is to be suspicious of anything this
President does and I think there suspicion is warranted .I think
this maybe the an issue that he has right.
An embryonic stem cell. Is it any wonder? Is it any
wonder that in this nucleus of Life where a man's seed and a
woman's egg has come together that in these initial moments of a
new individual life the astonishing power of nature is at it's
most awesome strength and magnificence. Yes indeed what great
potential for science if we could harness such power. To what
purpose though? Where are we going with this? What is the cost?
If to obtain an embryonic stem cell one must destroy the
embryo is a profound act. Well yes we are indeed talking about a
tiny dot of biological material. Does it's relative lack of size
take away from what this union of man and woman represents?
Represents is not the right word this tiny dot is not a
representation of life it is life itself for all it's impending
glory (or lack of glory as we are only human after all) as a
walking talking human being all the more miraculous for from
this little dot we all began. Can we cure Parkinsons's, cure Lou
Gehrig's Disease, restore the lame and broken beings of the
world? Right now the research is being dangled out in front of a
world of humans who
for the most part are compassionate loving beings who would love
to see the amount of human suffering reduced. We have some
respect for the wonders of science and many of us have some
