Red Auerbach

Red Auerbach I have to stop and say thank you, tip your hat to the man. I was a kid growing up in New England... what was it 7 championships in a row? We just took the Ride for granted... 'Cousy shoots'... that's what the kids would say as we went up for a shot, that's what I would say as I bounced a shot off the rim or maybe off the roof, the basket was on our garage in the backyard in Arlington. I was never particularly talented in Basketball but I loved that game.

Seems like the first game I remember ever seeing on TV was the Lakers Celtics final maybe 1966 I would have been 14. I remember it, sitting in my Grandfather's apartment in Manhattan. Everything was magical whenever I came to New York to visit my Grandparents. It's all vague who knows maybe I was...
No I think I was there and believe it or not I don't think I had ever even seen the Celtics play on TV before that day in NYC and my Grandfather and I were watching this game and I was thinking this is my team the Celtics. They won that final game of the championship series that day and that was my first basketball game and Bill Russell Beat Wilt Chamberlain.  Red Auerbach and he retired at the end of that year... as coach and as you know he went on to become the General Manager appointed his marvelous 6'10" Center a SF Bay native, to be the next Coach and through the years won what was it I guess 16 total Championships for the Celtics... Black and White together in the Pride of the Green.

Red Auerbach a Jewish kid born in Brooklyn who grows up to be the greatest coach, General if you will of any American Sports Team. Something about Jewish soul.... Magnificent Chutzpah..
