Chuck Day is a masterful blues guitarist and vocalist who has been living in Fairfax for almost 30 years now. Originally from Chicago he remembers his first gig was at somewhere around 5 years old at the Hershey Florist Company in Clinton, Indiana. He sang "I am Looking over a Four Leaf Clover that I Overlooked Before" He started playing guitar at age seven. Some of his major influences, Hank Williams and Jimmy Reed. At age 15 he got on the phone and called up King Records of Chicago and told them he wanted to audition. King Records had James Brown among others in those days. They asked him how old he was and then told him to come on down and bring your parents. He went with his Mom and they signed him that day. They flew him to Cincinnati where they recorded his first single 'Pony Tailed Partner' it sold 550 records worldwide. He recorded another single in 1959 called 'Mama's Place' .

Check out Chuck's Web Site for some more history and a great review,

It seemed like's Chuck's Blues Band in various incarnations had played at 19 Broadway every Monday night for maybe 20 years. The Chuck Day Band is a rare event these days.  Chuck has been taking it easy. What happened at the 881 Club was a gathering of friends. It turned out to be a great little party.

Well it was Tim Bush who told me about the gig I might never have known otherwise.  This was just after the news of Tim leaving for Hawaii had gotten around. It was going to be a party and just because it was being held at the 881 Club in San Rafael a location more famous for the card room than live music didn't mean it didn't have a lot of potential.

It turned out to be an all-star ensemble of players at their best.

I shot 3 rolls of B&W 3200 speed film pushed one stop. 90 percent of the photos were used in the flash movie, they aren't all great shots but I think they give you a good taste of the action. None of the photos were taken during the actual performance of Boney Maroney. I was too busy enjoying myself out on the dance floor with Miss Maroney herself. I also did a digital recording of the show with just barely enough success, only the last tune of the night Jerry Lee Lewis's 'Great Balls of Fire' and the encore 'Boney Maroney' came through perfect. You will have to stay tune here at this website for the next appearance of The Chuck Day Band, we hope to do it again.

  It was a great party.
